Perths Best Kept Secret!

We are local Perth based not for profit dive club with members that just like to dive! Our club is run by its volunteer committee who are committed to making the club run as smooth and and as safe as possible.

With around 120 members and a purpose built 12m dive boat we not only dive together we are involved in community arranged clean-ups, monitoring of the local environmental and we organise regular local and overseas dive trips.

Just as important the UEC is a social club and meet on a regular basis.

our history

The UECWA is one of Australia’s and WA’s oldest and largest SCUBA diving club with a distinguished history. Formed over sixty years ago in 1954, the UEC conducted WA’s first organised SCUBA diving school two years later and the high standard of our instruction impressed the authorities so much that we were given the responsibility of training the original Police Diving Team in Perth.

Over the years the UEC was involved in a lot of shipwreck exploration. Many wrecks on our coast, particularly in the metro area were discovered by UEC members. In the 1960’s and 70’s our members provided the core of workers for the early museum expeditions on the Dutch wrecks such as the famous Batavia at the Houtman Abrolhos islands

Today, UEC members are involved in community clean-ups and monitoring of local environments. With so many members of different ages and backgrounds (and our own boat) the Club enables divers to enjoy WA’s great underwater environment, as well as participate in a vibrant social scene.

The club owns a 12 meter purpose built aluminium dive boat. It can take fourteen divers comfortably and is fully equipped with all the appropriate safety equipment (Oxygen, Defibrillator, EPIRB, First Aid Kit, Flares etc.) and a rescue dingy. At the rear there is an excellent dive platform with steps for easy exit from the water.
