Some had their doubts on what today’s winds were going to do to the diving (and trips there and back) but Cape Cruiser took it all in her stride, as did the 13 divers that headed out today.

As I got to the marina early, I thought I’d jump on and help Mike get the boat out of her mooring, with Trev running a little behind.  Suffice to say, I hope I make a much better President than I do a DO as throwing a rope isn’t as easy as it may appear to be!  I did remember Mike's last word of advice though – “don’t let go of the end!” I didn’t and all was well with the world once more.

First stop was President's Palace.  Some gorgeous scenery with lots of swim through to explore.  Plenty of fish about including large schools of bullseyes and big dhufish. Navigation skills were put to test when the boat decided to move a mere 50 metres from when she anchored.  Just to keep the punters guessing.

A lovely rest in Eagle Bay saw seals in the distance and a nice bay to have lunch, out of the wind.  Lunch these days seems to run at 10.30 which no one seemed to mind.

Dive site number two was The Stable which (much to our surprise) didn’t feature a single horse.  Plenty of crays around and once again, some lovely swim throughs.  At entry there was a massive school of silver drummers which circled for a while. Mel was kind enough to check the anchor here and luckily, she held on tight as the anchor took her for a little joy ride which entertained me no end. I think the highlight of the dive was three huge sambos cruising by at the safety stop, although one diver reported a Wobbie hiding in the kelp.

Heading home, the winds were certainly picking up.  A few mildly hairy moments but if Mikes not worried, no one’s worried.  Not sure if he just wanted to get home to avoid the gaggle of giggling women on the top deck however.

Another fun day out of the way.  Special thanks to Mike for Skippering, Trev for being DO (even after coming off nightshift the day before).

Thanks

Jen
